Lucknow – The weather across Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain mixed through May 31, with intermittent rain and sunshine forecast in various parts of the state. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, no major changes in temperature are anticipated, and the ongoing spell of humid heat is likely to persist due to easterly winds carrying moisture.
On Monday, several parts of western UP, including Moradabad, Meerut, Agra, Aligarh, Bareilly, and Saharanpur, experienced light showers accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h.
For Tuesday, the Met Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for around 23 districts, including Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, and Balrampur. These areas may witness cloudy skies, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. Isolated incidents of lightning strikes have also been predicted.

Atul Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, stated that this pattern of weather fluctuations will continue until May 28. “From May 29 onward, we expect an increase in the intensity and coverage of rainfall and gusty winds across the state for the next 2-3 days,” he said.
Districts Likely to Witness Thunderstorms and Lightning:
-
Eastern UP: Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar
-
Western UP: Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and nearby areas
Residents are advised to stay alert, especially in regions under thunderstorm warnings, and to avoid sheltering under trees during lightning activity.
This period of alternating weather is typical for the pre-monsoon season, and experts believe it may help ease the impact of heatwaves that have plagued parts of northern India earlier in the month.
